Can you give a quote in advance?

Honestly, no: it is not possible. The type of glass, the depth and the length of a scratch determine the labour time, and those factors can only be properly assessed on board. We look at the glass first and then give you honest advice on approach and cost.

Will the glass be weaker after polishing?

Accepted Answer

No, it becomes stronger. Polishing changes the structure of the glass surface, making it stronger than before.

Question 3

Will I still see anything after polishing?

Accepted Answer

With light damage, no. With deep scratches more glass has to be removed and a very slight distortion can occur. We point that out in advance so you can decide whether to accept that risk. Then we get to work.

Why polish instead of replacing the window?

Accepted Answer

Taking a window out of a superyacht is a huge operation. The glass has to be remade, curved, to size, in the right thickness, and that takes weeks to months. The interior has to come out and the glass often comes from Italy or Germany. Polishing is done on board, is much faster and can be up to 80% cheaper.

When is grinding needed instead of polishing alone?

For deep scratches or grooves that do not disappear with polishing alone. We first grind away the damaged area in a controlled way and then polish until the glass is optically clear again.

What if there is a chip or pit in the glass?

Accepted Answer

We do not polish such damage away; that would cause a large distortion in the glass. We fill the damage with resin, cure it with UV light and finish it smooth, so the repair is barely visible.

Question 7

Can the glass be protected during a refit or renovation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We apply protective film to glass that needs to stay protected against grinding spatter, paint and scratches during a refit or renovation. Afterwards we remove the film without leaving any traces, or you choose a permanent film.

Question 8

What does a glass coating do?

Accepted Answer

A glass coating is transparent and not a tint. It makes the glass water-repellent, so water beads off and salt, limescale and dirt adhere less. The glass stays clean longer and is easier to clean: outside against salt, inside in shower enclosures against limescale.

Do you also apply film to the interior?

Accepted Answer

Yes. On marble, stainless steel, high-gloss lacquer and wood we apply a virtually invisible, self-healing protective film: light scratches disappear from it again with heat. Beforehand we assess whether the finish underneath adheres well enough.

Can the exterior paintwork be protected too?

Accepted Answer

Yes. On cap rails, steps, bathing platforms and fender areas we apply a transparent, self-healing film that takes scratches before they reach the paint or gelcoat. Damaged film is renewed locally.

Question 11

Do you also do black borders and interior wrapping?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We apply black borders as film on the inside of the glass, oversized and cut exactly to size. With interior wrapping we give panels, furniture and walls a new finish without replacement.

Do you work on location worldwide?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Patrick has already worked in Australia, Singapore, Turkey, France, Great Britain, Spain and Germany, and travels to wherever the yacht is.

Do you only work on superyachts?

Accepted Answer

Yes, our focus is entirely on the luxury yacht segment. Occasionally, at the request of existing clients, we also treat glass in a home or car, but construction and the private market are not our core business.

Do you take photos of the work on board?

Accepted Answer

No. Out of respect for owners’ privacy we do not take photos on board and we do not mention names. Discretion is part of this work.
